10 million more years of life for people in the South West
What would you do with extra minutes, hours, days, and years of life?
The South West Academic Health Science Network (SW AHSN) is on a mission to give people living across the South West of England extra minutes, hours, days, and years of healthy, happy life by 2035, by placing innovation in health and care where it needs to be.
In May 2018, the UK government launched its Grand Challenge to put the country at the forefront of the industries of the future. The report set out a mission to ensure that people enjoy at least five extra healthy, independent years of life by 2035. Here in the South West of England, a region which roughly two million people call home, this challenge equates to 10 million more years of life for residents living across the region.
Our mission isn’t just about gaining more years of life. It’s about adding life to those years, by spreading and scaling innovation in health and care to make those additional minutes, hours, days, and years’ worth of time both positive and independent. New medication, new technology, and improved practice spread across the region can result in healthier and happier life. When this is the case, the possibilities for people are endless.
At the SW AHSN we are celebrating the huge contribution made by those enabling innovation to improve the health and experience of people and patients across the South West. Over the next few months we’ll be highlighting numerous examples across our vast and dynamic region: ideas, people, projects, and programmes which are enabling better health and social care with the support of the SW AHSN.
With practitioners and project partners we’re facilitating collaboration between innovative people, increasing the pace and scale at which innovation is spread, and ensuring we exchange information about what works. Together we are transforming health and care in the South West of England …and bringing minutes, hours, days, and years of healthier, happier life to the people who live here.
