Free online RESTORE2mini training for every carer
The South West Academic Health Science Network (South West AHSN) is proud to be working with Blue Stream Academy to launch online RESTORE2mini free training for every carer and care professional.
Developed in partnership with Blue Stream Academy, RESTORE2mini is a life-saving physical deterioration and escalation tool, used in care homes and by domiciliary care providers throughout the UK.
RESTORE2mini online training enables nursing and care professionals to gain new deterioration management skills and improved knowledge and understanding of the people for whom they care.
Originally developed and co-produced by the NHS West Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group, and now part of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care System and Wessex Academic Health Science Network, RESTORE2mini has grown from nationally recognised deterioration methodologies such as the national early warning score (NEWS2), early recognition (soft signs) and structured communications (SBARD). The RESTORE2mini is a ‘soft signs’ version of the RESTORE2 tool for use in settings where it is not possible to make clinical observations.
We are pleased to present this important, free-of-charge, RESTORE2mini training resource for all carers, accessible 24/7 online, to help provide better care across health and care environments and it’s available to access at any time
Harriet Matthews, South West AHSN Programme Manager and project lead on the Blue Stream Academy partnership, said:
“We are delighted to be launching this online resource and making this essential training as accessible as possible. We recognise that many carers in our communities are very busy, and potentially move between locations and teams. Ensuring that they can rapidly develop and test their skills in recognising deterioration is an opportunity to support an essential part of the workforce in the sector.”
Jude Glide, Senior Care Home In Reach Practitioner, Quality Improvement & Education Lead, Somerset LARCH Collaborative made a significant contribution to the set-up of the online RESTORE2mini resource. She said
“I think the Restore2 Mini module is really important because it shows how early soft signs are paramount in detecting acute illness. Acting quickly, getting the right help, in the right place at the right time is crucial. In my experience from working with Care Home teams, completing the RESTORE2mini training has not only increased staff confidence to detect soft signs & escalate concerns using the SBARD tool, but also given them an appetite to upskill and learn how to take observations vital to the care of vulnerable people’
