Share and Learn Session: Reducing harm from opioid medicines

We are delighted to hold the first South West Share and Learn: Reducing harm from opioid medicines event. We will be sharing the findings of the diagnostic phase of the AHSN Network Medicine Safety Improvement Programme that aims to reduce the use of high dose opiates for chronic non-cancer pain.

The Share and Learn Event will be an opportunity to discuss how we might enable a whole-systems approach to reducing opioid prescribing for chronic pain management that is not associated with cancer. With shared decision making at the centre and extending the pathway for prevention, through timely de-escalation and into treatment while enabling eight conditions for rapid change in health and care to progress this work in 2022/23.

Your valuable input will contribute to shaping better outcomes for the patients and to developing possible methods for collaborating in the future on this important issue.

Between October 2020 and March 2021, the South West AHSN, via the Patient Safety Collaborative, undertook a systematic search of real-world interventions in opioids management, with 15 innovations being found within the South West region of Somerset, Devon and Cornwall.

As a result of the coordinated efforts across England to gather intelligence, there were over 112 structured interviews collated nationally. We would like to showcase helpful resources that will enable you as leaders in Integrated Care Systems to identify learning from other areas as you design and deliver improvement programmes for people living with chronic pain.

An agenda will follow shortly!

We are looking forward to seeing you on the 10th February 2022!
