Effective prevention and treatment of sleep problems
Huge sleep debt across the UK impacting the health of the nation, especially in children and young people.
Details
Hunrosa is a provider of sleep services, using the latest knowledge about sleep, we resolve sleeplessness and insomnia across the lifespan. Including within the NHS. We provide sleep education through to treatment of chronic sleep problems.
Our Sleep Wise App has been uniquely co created with education and health to support children and young people with sleep difficulties. It has passed ORCHA review and is being used by health and schools and parents. It is unique as it concentrates upon young people and how to help them effectively achieve a restful night's sleep. It is relevant for children with additional needs as well as those without.
Sleep Right training is accredited training for professionals to help them navigate the sleep advice and discover effective ways to support children and young people who have sleep difficulties.
The problem
Latest statistics suggest that approximately one third of young people consider themselves to have a sleep problem.
In addition, research indicates that up to 80% of young people who are neurodiverse have problems with sleep. Sixty percent of young people state that they use their phone at night. There is a dearth of reliable accessible information for parents and carers to help with sleep problems. Once a problem develops few have the skills to effectively tackle the problem before it becomes chronic. There are real benefits to addressing the elements that impair sleep through Hunrosa sleep programmes and by using the Sleep Wise app and Sleep Right training knowledge.
Evidence
We know that by treating sleep there are considerable cost benefits to be gained as health improves more quickly and prescribing is reduced. Impact on services lessens. Sleep treatment also lessens suicidal ideation.
Hunrosa achieved a 62% reduction in prescribing in a project commissioned by the NHS in Cornwall. In an audit of our child and adolescent health service sleep offer, half the young people needed no further CAMHS input after resolving their sleep.
Our training is well received by professionals. Next steps are to engage young people themselves to develop sleep resources.
