Companies Benefit From SW AHSN Market Insight Surgeries at Event in Cornwall

Six companies who attended the recent ‘Independence Day – Maximising Technology in Health and Care’ event, on 04 July at Falmouth University, welcomed ‘Market Insight Surgeries’, delivered by experienced members of the SW AHSN Innovation Team.

The aim of the 60-minute surgeries is to ‘bridge the gap between industry and the NHS’, enabling patients to benefit from innovative products, treatments and technologies more quickly.

The NHS is a complex market to sell into, which many innovators from the commercial sector would testify. The SW AHSN’s Market Insight surgeries offer companies the chance to understand how their product might be perceived by its potential purchasers from the NHS.

Each of the six companies shared their product offering confidentially in exchange for insight on how healthcare funding might impact their plans to sell to NHS organisations, and how they could approach healthcare purchasers. By challenging a company’s value proposition, the SW AHSN Innovation Team was able to highlight the things to consider when innovators from the commercial sector attempt to engage with the NHS.

Kurt DeFreitas, Project Manager, SW AHSN said: “The sessions are deliberately challenging because the potential benefit to the company is the time and effort they save on approaches that may not succeed. Successful innovation is more than simple technologies delivering desirable outcomes. Realisable savings in excess of the investment, whilst being achievable within existing NHS contract mechanisms are just as important for wide-scale uptake of new products.”

Stuart Monk, Director of Innovation added: “The feedback we received from the companies who attended our Market Insight Surgeries on the day was extremely positive and we’re really looking forward to offering more sessions over the coming months.”

The next SW AHSN Market Insight Surgeries will be held at SW AHSN Offices in Exeter on the following dates:

28 September 2017
26 October 2017
30 November 2017
25 January 2018
22 February 2018
29 March 2018
