First Venturefest South West Event a Big Success

On 18 October 2016 the inaugural Venturefest South West was held at Sandy Park in Exeter. In total, around 600 entrepreneurs, investors and innovators flocked to the venue to see a showcase of regional innovation from across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset.

The South West Academic Health Science Network (SW AHSN) was a key partner in the organisation and sponsorship of the event, leading the formulation and delivery of the Digital Health programme. The Programme was packed with a range of fantastic speakers from the NHS and Department of Health, to digital health innovators and colleagues from Kent-Surrey-Sussex (KSS) and West of England AHSNs, sharing insights with delegates. This included the current trends and developments in digital health, as well as the opportunities for innovators to engage with the NHS, and a deep dive into mobile health app development. The SW AHSN and KSS AHSNs also provided 1-to-1 NHS Market Access Surgeries, part of a cross-Academic Health Science Network collaboration. This was an opportunity for industry delegates to understand how their product’s value proposition is perceived in the eyes of the NHS.

Venturefest South West aimed to bring hundreds of entrepreneurs and businesses together with investors, innovators and academics to facilitate new interactions, collaboration and investment. As well as exchanging ideas and industry insights to drive growth in the region, the event featured talks from world-class speakers and technology companies sharing their experience.

The event has sparked many new connections which we hope will continue to accelerate the region’s growth in digital health and support the challenges facing the health service across the region. We aim to support such new connections and growth.
