New Chair for the AHSN Network

Mike Hannay has been elected as new Chair of the AHSN Network. Mike, who is Managing Director of the East Midlands AHSN, replaces Dr Liz Mear.

Mike joined the East Midlands AHSN in July 2016. He has over 25 years’ national and international experience within the pharmaceutical industry, with a track record of building collaboration with healthcare and academia. Previous roles include ThermoFisher Scientific (as Vice President for UK BioPharma Services) and AstraZeneca (as Vice President of Medicines Development).

“I’m honoured to take up this position,” said Mike. “Our next licence presents new and exciting opportunities to expand our national collaboration as we deliver NHS programmes and contribute to the adoption of spread of products and services developed by commercial innovators.”

Dr Mear, who is Chief Executive of the Innovation Agency, served as Network Vice-Chair from November 2015 and as Chair from January 2016.

“Liz’s commitment to the Network has been outstanding and I would like to thank her on behalf of the AHSN chief officers,” said Mike. “All 15 AHSNs can approach the new licence period with confidence and Liz has played a central role in building our collective reputations and developing our collaborative working.”

The Network Chair serves for one year, and Mike takes up the role from 20 September.

A process is underway to elect a Vice-Chair for the Network.
