Sharing vital patient information

EMIS is an IT system for GPs to hold information about their patients’ care. It is currently used by almost all of Somerset’s GP practices, holding records for more than 540,000 patients.

The SW AHSN provided project support to Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group, to work with GPs and NHS trusts to trial a web viewer that clinicians in urgent and emergency care, out-of-hours and NHS 111 services could use to read patient records. This allows them to gain rapid access to crucial medical information about acutely ill patients, speeding up and improving their care.

A film explaining more about how EMIS works and the impact it is having is now available and you can see it here.

EMIS has been a huge success with 10,000 ‘views’ in its first year, and is now being rolled out to all clinical services and NHS providers in Somerset.
