Detailed Programme Information

Aiming to create optimal conditions for patient safety improvement across systems.

The System Safety Improvement Programme is a new programme of work for 2022-23 being led by NHS England and Improvement.

Here in the South West, the South West Patient Safety Collaborative will be working with our local Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) in Somerset, Devon, and Cornwall and Isles of Scilly to create safer systems of care throughout our region.

We are aiming to:

  • Mobilise effective Integrated Care System-level Patient Safety Improvement Networks to deliver the priorities within the NHS Patient Safety Strategy. We are working alongside ICS patient safety teams to co-design a network that will support optimal, sustainable conditions for patient safety improvement across our region.
  • Support the national adoption and scale-up of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF). Our work will be guided by the PSIRF implementation preparation and planning guidance.
